Traditionally, ACYOA Day is a parish event held—on Palm Sunday—for
the purpose of focusing attention on the organization, its members and
its role in the local church community. This often takes the form of a
banquet and program to celebrate the ACYOA and draw attention to its accomplishments,
promote its programs or honor individuals who have made an impact on the
youth of the Church. Additionally, Central Council members travel
to different parishes within the Diocese on Palm Sunday to speak about
the purpose and mission of the ACYOA.
Here are some ideas on how to commemorate ACYOA Day in your parish:
- Have a separate collection during church services to donate to youth
activities in your parish.
- Honor ACYOA alumni in your parish.
- Have ACYOA members participate in the Divine Liturgy and help with
other duties – the Kiss of Peace, singing in the choir, greeting
parishioners, passing the collection plate.
- Honor an individual who has dedicated many years to youth ministry.
- Set up an ‘ACYOA table’ at fellowship hour with pictures
and information about upcoming events to recruit new members.
- Have all ACYOA members recite the pledge and the prayer of the ACYOA
during fellowship hour.
